It’s not *just* your personal brand, it’s your legacy…

Hey everyone!

Personal Branding has been everything to me, whether in my employed life or now as an entrepreneur. It’s reached the point where I get bookings simply because people recognise me as “the big guy with the cap and the beard.” I’ve had clients say, “Yeah, you are the guy we’ve been told to book!” It’s a powerful testament to how personal brand sticks. But, of course, it also means I can never shave again or take my hat off!

Jokes aside, the reality is that our personal brand is what defines us in the minds of others. It’s not just about what we do, but how we present ourselves—consistently, authentically, and memorably. This is true whether you’re working for someone else or running your own show. In my employed life, my personal brand helped me stand out and make meaningful connections, laying the groundwork for what would eventually become my business, Forging People.

Even something as simple as the strapline I use at every conference has become a signature part of who I am. This isn’t accidental; it’s the result of careful consideration and consistent reinforcement of what I want to be remembered for.

And that’s the key—what do you want people to remember about you? What’s your legacy?

When it comes to public speaking, many people focus on what they’re going to say, but the truth is, it’s not about what we say—it’s about how we make people feel. Your personal brand plays a huge role in this. It’s the emotional connection you create with your audience that leaves a lasting impression. It’s the reason why, after a talk, people might not remember every word you said, but they’ll remember the energy, the passion, and the authenticity you brought to the stage.

So, here’s my call to action: think about your personal brand. How do you want to be perceived? What do you want your audience to feel? Start by identifying the elements that are uniquely you—whether it’s a physical trait, a style choice, or a consistent message. Then, make sure every interaction, every presentation, and every conversation reinforces that brand.

Because in the end, your personal brand isn’t just your calling card—it’s your legacy, whether you’re working for someone else or building something of your own.

‘Til next time…

Cheers
