Inspiration from Eli Gemstone…

New Year is usually a time where we consider everything a fresh start, a clean sheet – to set some new goals or resolutions.

The conversations I have been having with audiences and clients so far this year has shown me that this year is an exception.

Instead of looking forward – we are purely trying to survive.

Or, even worse, ruminating on what has gone before.

As I quoted from JD Vance in my last moment of 2020 – “where we come from IS who we are – BUT we choose every day who we become.”

We’ve all messed up, we’ve all made bad decisions, we may even feel that we have failed – and we disregard our successes and kindnesses.

But rumination and guilt will only serve to destroy your present and your future – and now more than ever, we can all fall into that trap.

Recently, I’ve been watching a great show called ‘The Righteous Gemstones’ – a comedy show, which ended with, what I thought was, a hugely poignant delivery by Eli Gemstone played by the brilliant Jon Goodman – which I feel fits where we are very well, personally and professionally – and even inspire a change of perspective.

“All that transpires every single day brings us in and out of each other’s lives.

We move through this world crossing paths with friends, family, strangers and enemies.

And I believe the goal of all of that colliding is to make us appreciate one another.

To find empathy.

How we navigate this life and our relationships with each other is what truly defines us and leads us on to the path of healing.

By accepting one another for our shortcomings, our sins, our selfish behaviours, we are granted the ability to make mistakes as well.

The ability to begin again. To be forgiven.”

Yesterday has gone.

Tomorrow hasn’t happened.

Let go, forgive and give today – and every day – everything you have – you’ve got this!

Cheers
